A two-minutemorning wash
Lukewarm water, a soft towel and two unhurried minutes at the basin: a plain start that your skin and your morning both notice.
This is not a routine of steps and bottles. It is two minutes at the basin, done slowly, as a way of arriving in the day. Skin likes plain things done gently. So, on a hard week, does the rest of you.
The steps
Four small steps,in your own time.
Run the tap until the water is lukewarm, not hot. Wash your hands first.
Cup the water in your hands and splash your face three or four times. Water is enough for most mornings.
Press a clean, soft towel against your face and pat it dry. Do not rub.
Before you look away from the mirror, take one slow breath and look at yourself kindly, as you would at a friend.
The reason
Why it helps
Hot water and hard rubbing strip the skin's own oils, which can leave it tight, red or dry by lunchtime. Lukewarm water and a pat dry are gentler, and they are all most faces need in the morning. The two minutes matter as much as the water: they are a small, calm start before the day's needs arrive, and a moment of looking after yourself before you look after anyone else.
A gentle variation
If you have no time at the basin, a warm, damp flannel pressed to your face for a few breaths does the same job. If your skin feels dry afterwards, a little plain, unscented moisturiser is plenty.

WE · TRIBE
Try itwith someone.
If you help someone else wash in the morning, use the same gentle way for them: lukewarm water, a soft flannel, a pat dry and no hurry. Then take your own two minutes.
Try it today
Tomorrow morning, wash your face with lukewarm water, pat it dry with a soft towel, and take one slow breath at the mirror.
