A good-enough day
On hard days, decide what counts as enough: the baby cared for, you fed, and the rest can wait.
Some days with a baby are simply hard: little sleep, lots of crying, nothing done. On those days it helps to lower the bar on purpose and decide what counts as a good-enough day. It is not giving up. It is looking after yourself so you can keep going.
The steps
Four small steps,in your own time.
In the morning, or when things get hard, ask: what really has to happen today?
Write down no more than three things: the baby fed and cared for, you eat something, one small thing for you.
Let everything else wait: the laundry, the messages, the tidy house.
In the evening, tick off what you did, and tell yourself that it was enough.
The reason
Why it helps
Lowering expectations on hard days can ease the feeling of failing at everything. A short list makes the day feel more manageable. Ending the day by noticing what you did, rather than what you did not, is kinder.
A gentle variation
If you have a partner or helper, share the short list with them so they know what matters most today. If hard days are most days, that is a sign to ask for more support.
