A letter to the baby
Write a short letter to your baby: what this time is like, what you hope for, what you are wondering about.
Pregnancy can be full of feelings, sometimes all at once. A letter to the baby is a gentle way to put some of them down. It does not need to be eloquent or happy all the way through. It is a record of this time, for you, and perhaps one day for them.
The steps
Four small steps,in your own time.
Find fifteen quiet minutes and something to write on.
Start with: Dear baby, and write about today: where you are, what the weather is like, what you have been doing.
Write a little about how you feel, what you are looking forward to, and what you are unsure about. Honest is better than perfect.
Put the letter somewhere safe, and add another one later if you like.
The reason
Why it helps
Writing can help untangle feelings and make them easier to look at. Many people value having something from this time to look back on. If you notice the letters are mostly worried or low, that is useful to know and worth talking about with your midwife.
A gentle variation
If writing is not for you, record a voice note, collect a few photos, or ask a partner or other children to add a line or a drawing. If this pregnancy follows a loss, it is natural for the feelings to be mixed; write only what feels right.

WE · TRIBE
