Find a relaxed performance
Many venues run shows, films and visits where noise, movement and coming and going are welcome, so more people can come.
Theatres, cinemas, museums and concert halls can feel out of reach for someone who finds it hard to sit still, stay quiet or cope with sudden noise, and for the people who go with them. Many venues now run relaxed performances, quiet hours or dementia-friendly screenings, where those things are expected and welcome.
The steps
Four small steps,in your own time.
Search online for relaxed performances, relaxed screenings, quiet hours or dementia-friendly events near you, or call your local theatre, cinema or museum and ask.
Read what the venue offers: lights left a little up, sound turned down, a quiet room, the freedom to come and go.
Ask about access: step-free entry, accessible toilets, seats near the exit, and whether a companion goes free or at a lower price.
Book one, and plan the journey and a break, so the day has room to breathe.
The reason
Why it helps
Knowing that noise, movement and leaving early are fine can take away much of the worry that stops people going at all. A shared outing to something cultural can feel like an ordinary pleasure again, rather than something that illness or care has taken away.
A gentle variation
If a whole show feels like too much, start with a short visit to a gallery or museum at a quiet time, and leave when you have had enough.

WE · TRIBE
Try itwith someone.
This is written for going with someone: a child, a parent with dementia, a friend who is autistic or anxious. Ask them what they would most like to see, and let them help choose. Going together is the point.
Try it today
Today, look up whether a venue near you runs relaxed performances or quiet hours, and note one date.
