Grow a little extra to share
Grow a few extra seedlings, herbs or cuttings and give them to neighbours, friends or a community garden.
Plants are easy to share. A few extra seedlings, a pot of herbs or a cutting from a houseplant can be a small, living gift, and an easy way to start a conversation with a neighbour.
The steps
Four small steps,in your own time.
When you sow seeds or take cuttings, do a few more than you need.
Pot them up in small containers, such as small yogurt cups with holes in the bottom.
Label each one with the name and one simple care tip.
Offer them to neighbours, friends, a school, or a community garden, or leave them by your door with a sign.
The reason
Why it helps
Sharing plants is a low-cost way to give something lasting. It can start conversations and friendships around a shared interest. It also brings a little more green to the area.
A gentle variation
If you do not have a garden, herbs on a windowsill or houseplant cuttings in water work well. If you care for someone who used to garden, grow something together and give it away together.
