Others due around the same time
Find a few people who are expecting at around the same time as you, so you have company for the months ahead.
Pregnancy and the early months with a baby can feel isolating, especially if your friends are at different stages of life. People who are due around the same time understand what you are going through and can become good company for walks, questions and long days later on.
The steps
Four small steps,in your own time.
Ask your midwife, clinic or local family or community centre what groups or classes run near you for people who are expecting.
Choose one to try. Many places have free or low-cost options, in person or online.
Go once, and if you like someone, suggest one simple thing: a walk, a coffee, swapping numbers.
Keep in touch in a small way: a group message, a monthly walk, or meeting up after the babies arrive.
The reason
Why it helps
Having people at the same stage can make you feel less alone and give you a place to share worries and good news. Friendships made now often carry on into the first year, when company matters most. Questions about health still go to your midwife, but the company is something friends give best.
A gentle variation
If going to a group feels too much, start with one person you already know who has had a baby recently. If you are a second parent, partner or co-parent, look for groups for you too; many areas have them.
